Umar is a teacher with a jazz background who loves to explore his imagination and creativity in music and encourages his students to do the same. Umar loves playing for other people but believes that music should be fun and satisfying for yourself first. When he is not enjoying music he loves cooking and inventing new recipes to share with his friends – it’s just like a different kind of performance!

He has a PhD in Ethnomusicology from Victoria University of Wellington, a Master of Music (Performance) from the New England Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Music from the New Zealand School of Music.

He teaches Piano and Double Bass and Electric Bass and Guitar.
